I'm running this and have never run a cross-country race before. So who else is running this? Anyone run it last year and could describe the course, trail etc.? Thanks.

I"ll be there. It's not bad at all. I ran there twice last year and each course was slightly different. SOme paths are grass others are hiking trail style. Just have to watch your footing. I think one of the courses there was a dirt hill at around 2.4 miles or so.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking forward to it, but not the heat/humidity so probably not a fast 5K for me.

I've surveyed the course with Liza and all should be set up for the 9:00am start on Saturday. Forcast if for cloudy skys and an overnight low in the mid-60's, so I have hope for good racing weather.

Well, I really enjoyed this race. I loved running on dirt the whole time, and thank goodness I never had any deer fly issues (maybe there were enough other runners for them to buzz that I got lucky!) While this was not my fastest 5k, I am very pleased considering the heat/humidity and the fact it was my first cross country race, not to mention I'm just getting back to more serious running after a few weeks at low milage. Also it was great to meet a couple of CBRC members Perry & Scott B. to put a face to the names.

Amy, Vic, and Blaine ran the finish line and timing. I, Jerry, Vic, and Scott B put out cones

I made one mistake marking the course -- I didn't mark the part about 1mi in where you cut through the trees towards the opening for the loop -- but fortunately the leaders were track kids (Chapticon probably) who knew the course from SMAC. I and another guy stopped at that point to discuss which way to go, and whether to follow them, but the guy behind us yelled at us to take the cut-through b/c that is how SMAC runs the course, so we did.

Several people ran the course with strollers -- one was a double stroller.

I forgot to pick up a t-shirt, but, it's not like I'm short of t-shirts Smile

Plus I found out who Sue is -- nice to meet you Sue -- except, I'm old and forgetful, so I apologize in advance, Sue, if I misremember you next time.

Any news on when results may be posted? I had all intensions on trying to go out and get a PB in this 5K but I changed my mind about 1 1/2 miles into it. My two oldest children Dustan 12 and Alexis 11 were running their first 5k. Neither had actually ever ran over a mile so much 3.1 miles. So I started thinking about how they were doing after about a mile into the race. Over next 1/2 mile I debated on wether I should stop and wait for them and help them get through the rest of the run. I did stop and was asked several times by fellow runners if everthing was ok? I was just standing there in the middle of the race and I have to say I did feel alittle funny. That was until the two of them came around the corner together and still running to my surprise. After talking to them Dustan was getting tired so I told him to walk until he got to the water station just ahead and then try to catch back up to me and his sister. Lexi was a tropper she never stopped running and once we got back out of the woods I told her it was time to start fishing. We started to reel in the person in front of us and once we caught them we focused on the next one. I think she passed about 6 people in the last 1/2 mile. She surprised me even more by having one heck of a kick left in her after the 3 mile mark. Dustan started catching up and only finsihed about a minute or so behind us.
So I may not of set my personel best time but it was much more rewarding to watch two of my kids finish something neither of them thought they could do. So I guess you could concider that an early fathers day gift for me.

I posted the results to Bob for the website and sent it to the yahoo group. I'll have to comment on it here later as I had a great time, we had lots of hard working volunteers which made the race a success.
