Hey - do any of you also do any cycling? If so, do you prioritize one activity over the other? I try to do both, but often find it difficult to know the best way to mix the two. I realize that how to do so really depends on what my goals are. But, I am looking for resources that might offer some good guidance. Any websites or books out there I should be looking for?
Thanks

I occasionally ride a stationary bike, and last weekend did my first outside bike ride. I'm a slow beginner though.
Simon advised me a while back to train evenly (for triathlon training), and prefer my weakest sport -- so if I did 9 workouts a week, then do 3 runs, 3 swims, and 3 rides, and if I miss one, miss the run (because that is my strongest). But, I've not been able yet to let loose of wanting to do a lot more running than anything else.

| I know Travis (our club VP) is a big cyclist, but I don't think I've seen him post anything on here yet. I'm sure he would have a wealth of knowledge for you.

| Good point: Travis Priest and Jerry Phelps are both cyclists (& PaxVelo members, and triathletes).

I haven't done this before. So, this is just a test.[/quote]

I am a cyclist, and most of my training is in the saddle. Which translates to three times a week on my bike, and one day a week is devoted to running. Unless I have a race coming up. Then I'll do some speed work on the Tuesday and Thursday prior to an event. I think the most important part about training on a bike is with minimal effort you can workout for long periods. Thus improving endurance. An hour in the saddle is far less taxing than an hour in your running shoes. Now, I'm not saying I'm an expert, or that Runner's World is beating down my door for tips. I'm just telling you what works for me. One drawback to cycling is the start up cost. Buying a bike and the necessary gear can be quite expensive, but if you ask me, and most of my Pax Velo commrades - it's well worth it! It's a great sport and much nicer to your joints. However, I will never give up my love of running. This response is pretty general. So, if you need more in depth info keep right on posting and I'll get back with ya.
