Weekend longs runs in Charles County

Postby dskemp on Wed Jul 02, 2008 12:22 pm

I have hooked up with few other multi-sport types in Charles County that are training for ironmans/marathons, etc. We are trying to get a weekly long run together and keep it going each weekend. A couple weekends ago there were 5 of us. This Sunday at 7-7:15AM we will meet at Rosaryville Park to run the trails there. (Actually PG CO.) See link for park location:

Please let me know if you are interested so we can keep an eye out for you.

Stay tuned for future locations/dates.

ROSARYVILLE STATE PARK

Postby JLAGANA on Wed Jul 02, 2008 12:56 pm

THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP.

I'VE BIKED AND HUNTED ON THAT PARK QUITE A BIT OVER THE YEARS WHEN LIVING IN PG COUNTY.

NICE TRAILS TOO.

WHAT AREA OF THE PARK DO YOU MEET AT?

ANY IDEA OF PACE AND DISTANCE GROUP STAYS AT?

We meet at the first parking lot on the right just after the gate.

Pace - ranges from 8min/mile to 11's or so. I believe most will run one loop; about 10 miles; but it's alway as short or as long as you wish.

Rosaryville trail run

Postby peacebabies1 on Sat Jul 12, 2008 11:07 am

I was wondering how well marked is the trail? I run a 15 minute mile so chances are I'll be way behind everyone and last thing I want is to be totally lost in an unfamiliar park on my first day running with a group. All my runs have been on a treadmill at the gym, gets boring after 9 miles :( . I'm willing to run the whole thing, 10 miles, just don't want to get lost!

Does anyone else do that Saturday run slow like me or maybe draft me up a good map?

The trail at Rosaryville is well marked. You won't get lost but there are some "inner loops" so that if you go the wrong way at a decision point, you would tack on an extra mile or so and end up back at the decision pt. Just remember depending on the direction you go to stay on the outer loop (don't go in) and you should be fine. The trail also crosses the park rd at the 1/2 way point so you can always do an out and back or get on the park road to take you back to the parking lot.
