|
|
I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with a cross country trail at Pax. high school. I thought there was one but I haven't been to the school in many months. Where could I find the trail? And how long is it (5K maybe?)? Also any brief course description would be great (ie: any hills?). Thank you for any information, I appreciate it. (if all else fails I guess I'll just have to get myself over there and search for it...)

If you are able to come to the high school tonight, Blaine and I will be there at 5:30 for a track workout (if the weather holds). We can show you how the course is run. The best description is that it's a giant circle around the school.
I can meet you another time if you want to run it and can't tonight. Was Sunday hot or what?

Thank you much. I will be in touch to plan a run there soon. Sunday....started OK. But the Humidity...UGH!!!! Right before I saw you I rinsed in the sprinklers at the Solomon's Fast stop. It was a slow/easy run and technically Summer hasn't even started yet! Ahh... Global warming.

One hot Sunday morning last year I was running up to those sprinklers and they shut them off right before I got there! I think at one point I had an internal debate about jumping into the water in front of Boomerangs. I hate running in the heat!
There is a lot of construction going on around PHS. I think the new road is supposed to open in August. It cut a part of the cross country trail off. The loop around the school isn't long enough, so for a meet part of the course is ran again. It usually took me about 15 minutes to run the loop. If you're really interested in running a trail, get in touch, and we can run at Calvert Cliffs.

Glad you mentioned Calvert Cliffs. I was thinking of that last night. I would like to run it, maybe this weekend? I haven't run it in a while so I hope the hills don't kick my butt too bad (that and I'm coming off a couple of weeks of very low mileage. But I do want to get off the road for a change of scenery/pace. Also, I signed up for the Walden/Sierra Cross Country 5K which is next weekend, so I figure getting a few off road miles in couldn't be bad.

| I really liked Calvert Cliffs the one time I ran it. Sierra, think there will be a lot of ticks there now?

You shouldn't have a problem with ticks on most of the trails. However, if you start from the hunting lot, you're putting yourself in more of tick country. The problem will be flies. It's about time for them to start swarming and biting. I've had more of a problem at St. Mary's Lake.
This Saturday I have to be in a class in Prince Frederick from 8am-2pm. It's so I can be an assistant coach with the CC team again in the fall. I could run later in the day, if the weather holds, or early - say 6 am.

Sat. or Sun. should work for me, (husband announced he may have to work Sat. in which case I won't have a sitter. But if he doesn't work I can meet at six or even a little earlier. I should know for certain Friday. I'm also not really worried about ticks, but those deer flies are just awful! I'm hoping maybe they aren't SO bad yet...Yeah wishful thinking I'm sure. I'll bring my way cool anti-fly head-gear just incase.

| At a park in Delaware over Memorial Day weekend, I & my brother & sister-in-law went for a walk in the woods. I don't think I picked off more than 10 ticks, but for whatever reason, they both picked off more than 20 ticks (at one stop, my sister-in-law found five on her at one time). So, now I've ticks on the brain...

| EEWWWWW! Ticks really are nasty. I wish I could use my dog's Frontline drops on me! At Calvert Cliffs I plan to stay on the service road or other CLEAR trails so to try and avoid ticks. Still, A Full Body Search required after running in the woods though.

| If you stay on the service road, you shouldn't have any issues. I might run there tomorrow (Friday). I'll let you know.
