Post information for events where volunteers are needed

PAX Velo Needs Your Help

We need more volunteers to help with marshalling at the SoMD Criterium on Sunday May 18. The marshalling job consists mainly in reporting wrecks, removing wrecks from the course, warning the racers of wrecks ahead and keeping pedestrians out of the way of the racers. There'll be very little directing of car traffic except at Station M12. The sight lines between the corners are very limited so we feel that we need to have folks on all corners.

Volunteers will receive general and specific instructions on their duties well before raceday. You'll be equipped with two-way radios, instruction manuals and a spiffy t-shirt. Come on out and watch some exciting racing at some challenging spots. You might want to carpool with your friends.

As you can see below we have 28 slots open so we'll need about 10 more folks taking 3 places each.

Please consider helping out the club. We need your support to run a safe and orderly day of racing.

Here are the slots that we're still trying to fill:

8:00 Juniors - Stations M1, M4b, M9, M12c and M13

10:45 Men 30/40 - Stations M10a and M10b

12:00 Women Cat 4 - Stations M4a, M4b, M8, M9, M10b and M12c

1:00 Women 1/2/3 - Stations M2, M4b, M9, M10b and M12c

2:15 Men Cat 4 - Stations M9, M10b, M11b and M12c

3:30 Pro/1/2/3 - Stations M6, M9, M10a, M10b, M11b and M13

Pick the slots that suit you and send me your request at jks36@verizon. net . Race day is less than 30 days away.

The course map (http://www.paxvelo. com/downloads/ 2008_SOMD_ Criterium_ Map.pdf) shows the location but here's a description: M1 first turn right out of the start; M2 second turn a hard right; M4 an off camber hard climbing turn; M8 a hard right with chain link fence on outside of turn; M9 similar to 8; M10 exposed guard rails; M11parking lot with people crossing: M12 turn to final sprint and car entrance and finally M13 Finish Line.

How many volunteers do you need (or are lacking)? Am I correct in counting about 28 spots that are missing volunteers?

It appears I will indeed be free that weekend, but may have my 5 & 7 year olds with me. Any suggestions on a good station to volunteer for?

Vic, I thought you were either running a marathon or were going to be on the CBRC team for the Capitol Hill Classic 10K? There's still time to volunteer after (if you're running the 10K)!

I'm currently planning to join youse guys for that Capital Hill run and then go to LaPlata to work the Crit (whatever that entails, about which I really have no idea yet).
