Rosaryville 10K/15K/25K/50K trail run, July 12, 0700

Somewhere near Upper Marlboro

I'm thinking of volunteering at it.

Never seen a long trail run in real life.

I was going to volunteer, but I'm about to bail -- the warninig about bug spray has discouraged me...

Well, If the bugs are that bad I guess I'll just have to try to run faster.... It has been a while since I donated blood, so I just signed up for the 25k. 8)

I'll be at Rosaryville, running the 50K. I don't know much about the event, but I figured it'd be a good opportunity to get some distance in without having to carry/cache water. A friend used to call this the "Pay To Run" theory. :)

The run went well I thought, however I did hear a few complaints from a couple of runners about the course markings, luckily I didn't get lost. I ran the 25k and really enjoyed it. The course was in great shape and dry packed dirt. I'm so glad it was almost entirely in the shade except for a few minutes here and there out in the sun. The humidity was typical for this area at this time of year so I won't whine about that, but I will say humidity just drains me! Another plus regarding the trails is that I never encountered a single deer fly! YAY! The hills were nice and none were horribly long, just right for me (I've been running lower mileage than my normal and haven't been on the trails in a while now). I took a totally awesome fall about 20 minutes into my run too. I fell, and rolled then got up quickly and realized nothing hurt, no blood-just scraped my knee and elbow a little, and got lots of dirt all over me. The guy running right ahead of me stopped, and it turned out he is a Dr. from St. Mary's hospital, guess I picked a good person to wreck near. I really had a good time trotting up and down the trails through the woods, in the shade, listening to lots of birds and at times there was a nice breeze too. It was nice to see two familiar faces there too. Perry and Claire were volunteering: THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS! And thank you both for the well wishes. My son's met me as I came up the field to the finish and my oldest ran with me to the line! I'm thinking if they have this race again next summer I will shoot for the 50k....we'll see. :D

You did great Sue! It was nice to cheer one of "our own" on at the start and on the course. You looked very strong on the course and happy. And what a treat to have your son run into the finish with you! I think Perry & I are in for next year, assuming healthy knees for me.

Great job also to Karsten Brown, who came in 2nd overall in the 50K!
