A Dr. for running injuries

Postby Sue on Mon Mar 31, 2008 11:33 am

Anyone know of a good Dr. to treat running injuries? (ideally in Calvert county but would consider elsewhere) I have not needed one but would like to know of any Dr's that would understand and treat running related aches/injuries if needed. Thanks in advance. Suzanne

A good person to ask might be Cathy (in the memberlist of this forum).

(Cathy, you're on the spot now...)

The guy that really saved my running hopes is Dr. Myles Schneider, who another runner Jay Wind referred me to. He is an expert with orthotics (I can never spell that). If you go to an appointment, bring a set of your worn running shoes so he can figure out what's been going on as well as check out how your feet are now. His contact info is:

The Annandale Foot & Ankle Center
Myles J. Schneider, DPM, FAC, FOM
7540-1 Little River Turnpike
Annandale, VA 22003
703 - 750 - 1124

The orthopedist that I saw for my hamstring troubles was Dr. Bryan Herron. They also have a Athletic Training / Rehab Center in the adjoining office, and since I of course didn't need major or minor orthopedic work I was referred to them and did several weeks of rehab in the form of stretching for them with some heat and cold mixed in. They're contact info is:

Advanced Orthopedic Specialists
Bryan Herron, MD
497 Main St
Prince Frederick, MD 20678
(410) 414-9840

Dr. Herron - definitely. Plus, he is an athlete and he understands "running freaks"! :)

I should credit Cathy for knowing Dr. Herron as she had the great advice to seek him out when my hamstring was enough of a pain for me to seek out help. Thanks again Cathy!

ORTHOTICS WORN

Postby JLAGANA on Wed Jul 02, 2008 12:49 pm

VIC,

BASED ON YOUR MENTION OF DR. SCHNEIDER IN THIS THREAD, DO YOU NOW WEAR A CUSTOM MADE ORTHOTIC MADE BY HIS OFFICE?

I RECENTLY MADE AN APPT WITH HIM TO GET SOME ADVICE. THEY ASKED ME HOW I FOUND OUT ABOUT HIM AND I MENTIONED CBRC.

I USED TO WEAR CUSTOM ORTHOTICS WHEN I WAS A KID, BUT HAVE NOT FOR YEARS AND THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE WORTHWILE IF I AM GOING TO GET INTO RUNNING SOME SINCE I HAVE ARCH COLLAPSE ISSUES.

GLAD TO HEAR THAT THEY HAVE HELPED OUT.

I AM STILL REAL CONFUSED (AND OTHERS APPEAR TO BE TOO WITH WHAT I HAVE READ ON THE WEB REGARDING THE USE OF MOTION CONTROL SHOES IF ONE HAS A CUSTOM ORTHOTIC MADE).

CURRENTLY RUN IN THE BROOKS BEAST AND THEY HELP AND ARE A GREAT SHOE, BUT NOT ENOUGH.

HOPING TO GO BACK TO A STABLE CUSHIONED SHOE IF I GET INTO CUSTOM ORTHOTICS AND AWAY FROM THE "MOTION CONTROL" SHOE LINE.

FOLKS SEEM TO BE UNSURE IF BOTH ORTHOTICS AND MOTION CONTROL SHOES SHOULD BE USED TOGETHER OR DO THEY WORK AGAINST ONE ANOTHER?

ANY INPUT?
