It was a wonderful day for 3.14 miles. On Saturday, March 14th (Pi day) the Patuxent High School Cross Country Team and Math Club hosted the 2nd Helping of the Pi Mile Trail Run at Patuxent High School. It was a pretty morning and the course was a little muddy, but a lot of runners showed up to brave the 3.14 mile trail. Track teams both from Patuxent and Calvert High School’s were well represented, as well as area runners young and old. There were over thirty pies available as prizes, most of them freshly baked by supporters of the cross country team or math club.
The times for the day were impressive considering the hilly course and muddy conditions. High school runners dominated the race. The overall winning time was 20:19 by Logan Wright from Leonardtown High School, almost one minute faster than second place runner David Franceso from Calvert High School (21:16). Close behind him in third place, Tommy Scott from Patuxent High School completed the local high school trifecta coming across the line in 21:17. The top female was another high school runner, Caroline Parris from Calvert High School finishing at 24:01. Following her were Mary Kuegler (26:13) from Southern High School and Ashley Armiger (27:39) from Calvert High School. The winners of the master’s division were Kyle Kartens from Great Mills, MD (23:01) and Lucille Winston from Lusby, MD (29:24) who held their own with youngsters.
New this year was a pie memorization contest and one mile trail walk. Amazingly, Patuxent High School’s own Tommy Scott recited 71 digits and earned a delicious pie. Even though the trail wasn’t in its best condition because of the previous day’s rain, the walkers got to enjoy a one mile walk through the beautiful woods surrounding the school. All proceeds from Saturday’s event will go to Patuxent High School’s cross country team and math club. Complete race results can be found at mablyb.googlepages.com/xc.
Thank you again all CBRC volunteers!
