I finished the dreaded 8 X 400 track work out

Postby scott on Thu Mar 20, 2008 7:23 pm

I figured I'd be the first to add a post in this section since I think I had my hardest work out since high school today. I had this trackout workout on my list of things to do before the end of this week and now I finally got it out of the way. I did a warmup and cool down with a slow jog in between each 400m, so there is never really any down time. The last time I did 400 meter repeats was in high school, I didn't have the split times I did back then but I was being optimistic and wanted to run each at 90 seconds. My splits were 83, 88 ,88 ,86 ,87 ,87 ,89 ,84 I actually surpassed my goal but now my legs feel like jello. Anyone have any suggestions on how to work the soreness out. Should I run tomorrow or take the day off? Recovery time is something I'm bad with, I have to force myself to take a day off. I know it important but I like to keep pushing myself. I can't let Vic keep winning all the time but I have a ways to go before I can keep up.

Where did you run? Paul and I ran at the track and the wind was vicious! Make sure you stretch, and if you run tomorrow, run EASY!!

I live right down the road from Choption High School so I run all my track workouts there. Yea the wind was crazy, I ran around 5pm I went up earlier but the track team was practicing so I waited for them to finish first.

Is there any race you're training for?

I'm planning on running most of the club races, the 10k in leonardtown and 5K this weekend and I would like to run a half marathon before summer gets here. I thought about the one in DC this weekend but I want to wait a little longer so I can finish with a respectable time instead of just being happy to finish. I ran 10 miles yesterday at a 8:22 pace and felt good afterwards so I know I can complete a half marathon. I want to be able to stay around an 8 min pace before I run a half race.

Chopticon track is usable?

Postby Perry2 on Tue Mar 25, 2008 9:45 pm

Chopticon has an open track? I thought all St Mary's county high schools kept their tracks locked up.

I plan to check into this so we can find out what the policy on the tracks being open is. I always use Patuxent (even during school hours).

Last summer we went to either Patuxent High (So. Calvert Co) or St Mary's College for track workouts -- Patuxent High doesn't lock theirs and St Mary's College doesn't even fence theirs. I've been to Calvert High (Pr Frederick) once, and it was open also.

Great Mills High (Lex Park) has a fence and locks it, and I have heard that so does Leonardtown High.

Oh and occasionally we went to Ryken High track, when running with Ryken graduates.

The track has a fence around it but I've never seen it locked. The kids have practice after school but once they're off I've never had a problem running there. It gets messy there on Sat mornings after a football game but I just run around the junk or kick it out of te way on my warm up.

Track

PHS sounds like a good place to go. Just FYI, the Waldorf High school (Thomas Stone) as well as Prince Frederick (Calvert High school) both have tracks that are never locked and I've had good luck there on Wednesday nights, as I did tonight.

I'll check to see when the track team has home meets for anyone interested in running at PHS.
