I Can't Run!

Postby Amy on Wed May 28, 2008 8:42 pm

:x Three of my last four runs have been absolutely terrible. All my leg muscles hurt from below my knees on down. I have to take walk breaks every 6-15 minutes, and then the aches and pains just shift to a different area of my lower legs. I've never had this before, and it stinks! :x

The one of four that wasn't terrible was below average, but I did finish and didn't hurt too badly. Nothing was different about that day - not shoes, diet, sleep, hydration, etc.

Any ideas on causes, remedies, etc? I did try breaking a new pair of shoes for an easy four miles tonight - didn't make a difference.

I thought maybe it was because I didn't have any Jello for about 2 weeks (my new sugary addiction) but I ruled that out by having Jello last weekend and yesterday. This afternoon's run still stunk.

Sorry to hear that. The one thing everyone avoids and no one wants to hear is that you can't run. Is the pain in your achilles tendon? I'm no expert there, but if its anything like the hamstring, rest and stretching is the way to go. No, scratch that, don't be afraid of the $15 and see an orthopedist just to make sure you don't have a tear or something. If it is they might recommend the cross training thing like swimming or machines. Whoops, there I go again playing Doctor; I usually need a few beers to do that.

Thx for the advice. The problem is both legs, all muscles below my knees. Things seem to be getting better with rest, cross training, and a mineral supplement. Yay!
