Today was a non-running day for me. But when I took the dog out at 5:55 am today... So Humid! YUCK!
I'm looking forward to my long run tomorrow, but not the humidity!
Anyone else?

Pax base tri and Croften 10K both went Saturday morning -- and both saw heavy fog, humidity and heat. I did the Pax base tri, and I really enjoyed both the humidity (on the bike) and the heat (on the run), but my wife, who has a more typical (sane) view of heat, waited until the evening to run

This heat is making it tough to get out there and run. I went to Chopticon track today around 11am to do alittle speed work out and to try to climitize myself to this heat. Both of which didn't seem to work out so good. Maybe this evening it will cool a bit so that I can get a few miles in before the sun goes down.

You must be hard core to do speed work at 11:00 am today . I was splashing in the surf with the family & dog at that time. I have to run early and one of the reasons is it's cooler first thing in the morning.

| I ran at 5:10 this morning. I've had 64 oz of water since then and am still thirsty!

| I got on my elliptical that sits downstairs tonight since I had to stay home with the kids and their freinds tonight while my wife was teaching gymnastics. I thought that would be nicer than running in this heat. Well to my surprise 20 mins on level 6 kicked my butt. My heart rate stayed in the upper 140's and I only got 2.4 miles in acording to the screen before I had to go cater to the children. Oh yea this is the number 1 reson I love running outside away from home; no one to bother me when I'm training. Does anyone else experience this quick fatigue when you cross train? I mentioned this in some other post that I'm trying to incorporate more cross training into my routine to take some of the wear my joints. I don't know if I want to include my elliptical again after tonight.

First time I got on the old stationary bike that I picked up for a couple bucks at a thrift shop a while back, I was astounded to find how hard it was -- it was exhausting by 5 minutes. Afterwards, I decided it was beneficial that I could get such a workout with such a small time investment I still haven't lasted more than 20min on it (I've lasted further on a real bike outside than on the stationary bike).
(It is an old machine with broken controls, so it only has one setting, which has lots of friction.)

| You know when you start a race out, things feel good, but you know your going too fast. You don't know it because it feels hard, you know it from experience. I think that is the same thing that goes on when you cross train or do something different. Your fitness level from the runner that you are gives you the ability to go out too hard too early which gets in the way of the endurance training you intended for that day. So I think experience will help to temper hitting the elliptical too hard as I've had that same experience. An added bonus to that equation is the fact that very high heat or just being exposed to it drains you before the workout. I think people are tired out in the new heat this week in the same way they are tired from new pollen in the spring. It drains you in ways not apparent. So be carefule acclimating yourself to the heat or new cross training.
