Greenbelt National Forest

Postby Perry2 on Fri Sep 19, 2008 12:39 pm

Finished much earlier than expected yesterday afternoon at something in Greenbelt, and had my running gear, so went for a run around the office park area, and then down across the road into Greenbelt National Forest (it sits between Kenilworth, 193, Good Luck, and -- essentially -- 295). I've not been in it for 20 years probably. They've put some foot wooden bridge things in around the outside path, and labelled it "perimeter path". I'd forgotten how hilly and tricky the footing is -- I really enjoyed it, but decided not far into it that I would not run a second loop. I think the tricky footing is too dangerous once I get tired -- my response time to adjust my footing when I land wrong gets slower as I get tired, so I think my chances of turning an ankle go up.

I hardly ever do trail running, but I really did enjoy that. Flushed deer twice.

Plus I actually remembered where I was (from decades past) one time when I'd missed the trail and was running down a horse trail that dead ends out at Good Luck and Kenilworth.

It is about a 6mi loop if you don't make mistakes or run side stuff.
