ChiRunning: Fact or Fiction?

Postby JLAGANA on Mon Feb 16, 2009 1:54 pm

Just wondering thoughts on this:

http://www.chirunning.com/

I came across this and will need to work on getting some form back since everything is out of whack from having the cast on my foot.

Does anyone have the book?

Is this any different from what we might find in Tom Miller's book Programmed to Run?

I know the whole concept of the mid-foot strike has been getting a lot of attention lately. Some people swear by it - just like some swear by the South Beach Diet.

I'm skeptical of any approach that forces you away from your natural style (which, by the way, is exactly what wearing shoes does!). But if you're going to wear shoes, then it seems to me you should not try to run as if you are not. But, I also understand that many of these approaches also stress minimalist shoes - that do not feature a minimalist price tag.

My fear is that this is just another fad (remember when carbohydrates were going to be the death of us all?)

My two cents. For now I'm sticking with my Asics and my heel strike.
