CBRC Email and Forum Use

Postby Amy on Sat Mar 07, 2009 5:06 pm

I hope I'm not stepping on any toes by putting this out there. Just a quick note to everyone about the CBRC yahoogroups email list and CBRC forum. I've recruited several new members in the past couple of months, and have talked with a few more new members, and a few "trying to recruit members." Thought I'd take a minute to share my thoughts with everyone on yahoogroups email and forum use. Anyway, we've had lots of new members in the past year or so (yay!) and sometimes a quick review of yahoogroups stuff is nice at times like this. I'm not trying to call anyone out or anything, I have no bones to pick with anyone, no one has been annoying me online, etc...

Many people never, ever, not even once, have checked the forum. When putting out the word for group runs, please consider copying and pasting your forum posting into a CBRC yahoogroups email. The groups runs are (imo) one of the greatest parts of CBRC and it would be helpful to non-forum users to make sure the word is also put out via email. I've been trying to get in the habit of copying and pasting the information on my group runs so it appears on the forum and yahoogroups email. It's really not that much trouble, I've found.

Check your forum settings if you want to "watch" certain threads. You can get an email notification if there is a new posting to that thread.

If you feel there's a lot of "reply all" and annoying banter on the CBRC yahoogroups email, consider changing your settings to daily digest. You will get one email a day summarizing all the topics from that day. Or opt to get no email at all, but you can check the yahoogroups email messages online by logging in to the yahoo group. That won't "quit" you from the yahoo group, it will just stifle the email.

Thanks for reading all the way to the end. :)

Happy Running!

Also, if you are posting information about a group run, but so far your group only consists of you and you're a female, please remember this is a public forum and anyone can read your posting. I know personally when I post for a run I always have at least one person I know showing up.

And finally, don't be afraid to post. We (CBRC) have been very lucky with our forum, in my opinion. The forum hasn't gotten catty or had any major issues and we have a good, interesting, and sometimes unusual mixing of posts. Keep up the good work crew!

Thanks Sierra! Good point. I get a little freaked out about posting plans when I know I may be running alone. Thank you for the reminder. :)
