Postby Sue on Thu Oct 08, 2009 8:12 pm

Who else will be running in Baltimore on Saturday? I'm running the half marathon this year. Crystal and Perry are you still running the full? I'm heading up to the Expo tomorrow---YIPPIE! We will be there at the start cheering you and everyone else on Sat. morning! Good Luck!

Darn - we didn't know you'd be there. Results are posted already -- I'm off to look you up -- I hope you survived and finished it, and enjoyed it, and enjoyed all those hills in the later part. (Um, we found them a bit challenging.)

It rained up there? Didn't know that. It was just unseasonably hot and humid down here - I was thinking about you all! I love, love, love Baltimore! I've done the full twice and it's on my list of races I want to do again sometime. Glad you all had fun.

Hi Amy! As soon as I left my house it started raining up around Prince Frederick and sprinkled on and off the whole drive. It stopped when we got to Baltimore, then started to sprinkle again at the start of the half. When I was headed home, my sister was surprised it rained up there and she told me it hadn't rained here all day. Crazy weather. It was not alot of fun with the wind, but I had an alright run I guess, and my quads are still sore today! haha.

I ran in the half as well. I didn't join this forum until today though. It was my first half-marathon, and I did find the hills a bit challenging. The end was the worst...people kept saying "Your almost there, all downhill from here." Then I kept hitting up hills! I was like what the heck...

I reached my goal though (sub 2 hours) by 35 seconds wheeew!

Congrats on your first half and reaching your goal Buzz84! Yeah, only after that bridge at mile 11 (mile 24 of the full) is it really all downhill. I heard some folks shouting the same thing after the loop around the lake, but I knew it wasn't true...I almost felt bad for the runners that were doing the full marathon to hear someone shouting "almost there" and "all down hill from here" and you still have 4-5 miles left with a few more hills it can be as tough mentally as physically. Still I'm not ruling out Baltimore for next year. :D

At the halfway point of the full, coming through the Inner Harbor, some people were yelling at us "You're almost there, less than a mile to go" or something. Yeah.

I have to say that it was nice to get to the top of that long uphill -- it was before the bridge, but I think it was the last hill except the bridge.

So, having done the full, and seen where the half joined us, I can agree with people who said: the half gets all the uphills of the full :)

Actually the Full has some hills the first few miles, going up to the Druid area, so you guys get more hills....technically.... :|

Oh, and did you Full runners get a red race shirt?

This was hopefully the first of many 1/2 marathons for me (not ready to proclaim marathon yet). I'm planning on running in the Shamrock Marathon at Virginia Beach in March. Are there any regional marathons that you might suggest?

Rehoboth Full and Half, November, Rehoboth, Delaware (Delaware beaches)

We liked Rehoboth (full & half) last year, except for the unseasonably cold weather (it was below freezing in Nov, which is unusual for the Delaware beaches). Quite flat course -- well, the full anyway -- the Half is new this year and I haven't looked at its course. Last year they had the Full and a relay which was done at exactly the halfway point of the full.

Marine Corps Marathon, DC, October (no Half)

MCM has really strong crowd support, and only a few hills and they're not too bad. It also sells out in its first week of opening in the spring, I think, so you have to plan to register and register when it opens. I did this once. Enjoyed it (& liked having lots of cheering crowds), but I don't like the loudspeakers, or the crowded metro stations afterward. 25,000 runners? So never lonely.

LPRM (no Half)

Of course there is our local marathon, LPRM, in Piney Point, Maryland (St Mary's County), on Daylight Savings Day in the spring -- so temperature is quite hard to predict. Flat first half, rolling hills second half. Great post-marathon food, and showers available. I like it. No crowd support though, as is small and local and rural. 100-200 runners, so also somewhat lonely.

Annapolis Striders put on the B & A Trail Marathon and Half-Marathon, a very nice race, mostly flat. It's usually in early March, up in Serverna Park I think.

And Perry, I only asked about the shirts because red is my favorite color, and I would have loved to get a red shirt, so of course the first time I stepped down from the B-more Full, that's when they use red for the marathoner's shirt...I'm not whining though....(sigh)

Full marathoners got a white shirt w/ red cuffs, red collarband, and red stripes on going down the sleeves in 2006. Great shirt, I'm also a big fan of red, my only complaint is that it has cuffs and I don't like cuffs. Picky, I know. One of my favorite cool weather running shirts is one I got at Target about eight years ago, can't believe it's held up this well. It's a deep red, slightly v-neck, no cuffs.

And now the topic of this race review thread has switched to fashion. Sorry. Anyone wanna talk about running skirts?
