I'm heading to the podiatrist tomorrow to see what's going on with my foot. It's been bothering me lately and the more I read about it, it keeps pointing me to Plantar Fasciitis. I've been doing the stretching and ice treatment and it helps some but it still hurts so I decided to see the experts. Has anyone ever had this and if so do you know if ultra sound treatments work? It's suppose to speed up the recovery process atleast so I've read.

Do not go to a podiatrist. He will tell you not to run.

A better option is an Active Release Technique specialist. It will hurt to do the rehab, but it speeds recovery. You can search for providers:

Reaaaallllly stretch your calves. Also, what a very experienced masters runner/coach told me to do was build up the arch of my running shoe with duct tape. You can run thru it that way. Sounds crazy, but it works!

PS - you can do a lot of the work yourself. Ultrasound helps, but you can massage the arch of your foot every day. Really dig in deep! Also, if you can find a good massage therapist (I happen to know one in Solomons) to really work on your calves (a whole lot!), that will help immensely!
Everything is connected - your calves to your achilles to your heel to your arch.

I went yesterday, hadn't read your message yet at that point. He's actually a runner also so it made feel alittle better. They took 3 x-rays and are suppose to review them today to see if anything serious is going on. He taped my foot up some special way and then wanted me to do my normal work out when I get home. From my understanding the point of that was to re-align my foot to do something with my arch. If that seemed to help when I ran I may have to get orthodics. Either way he said that as long as I don't hear from him today then I can keep running and continue do rehab with them. If he does call me today then he found something bad in my x-rays and he'll want me to stop running immediately. I'm keep my fingers crossed that I don't hear from him.

Always wear supportive shoes, avoid flat flip flops and going barefoot. When your PF hurts after a run, massage it by rolling on a frozen water bottle. Keep a roller or tennis ball under your desk to massage your foot periodically during the day. Before getting out of bed or after long periods of sitting, move your foot back and forth, up and down, around in circles, etc, from the ankle, to loosen things up. Change your running shoes about every 500 miles and wear good socks when running.

That's what's helped me, anyway. Oh, and cross train. Get on the bike, in the pool, etc., to ease some impact on your feet during flare-ups. PF will never go away, you will just have periodic flare-ups.

I know this is late (I haven't logged in in a while), but if you tape your foot, you can run through it. I ran four marathons with PF. My foot only hurt for the first mile, then afterwards. After four marathons in six months, it disappeared completely. If you need to know how to tape, ask me.

It would be good to know how to tape it cause once in a while it still bothers me but my orthodics have really helped out.
